Discover Sointula with ease using our complimentary shared bikes, available on a first-come, first-served basis. Ideal for navigating our paved roads, these bikes offer the perfect way to experience the charm of this coastal town.
Take a leisurely ride down Kaleva Road, which winds along the coast and grants access to the beach in numerous locations. Alternatively, spend a day discovering the vibrant community of artists, small businesses, and local organizations that contribute to the unique atmosphere of Sointula.

A signed waiver is required before borrowing a bike. Donations are welcome to help us maintain this program.





Electric Rentals
With the added pedal assist, you can travel further and see more of Malcolm Island.
Head out to the wild side and Bere Point for a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness orcas rubbing on the beach. Actually seeing this is rare, but it’s a beautiful spot to see regardless. Alternatively, pedal to the end of Kaleva Road, where friendly alpacas await, greeting you with curious snorts and adding to your memorable journey.

A $250 security deposit and signed waiver are required prior to renting a bike.



2 Hour Rental
$40 per bike
The perfect amount of time to explore around time and discover local shops, artists, markets, and art installations or head out to the wild side to see the beauty of Bere Point.
4 Hour Rental
$60 per bike
Go further and see more of Malcolm Island. Hit the backroads and explore. You are bound to find something interesting no matter which direction you go.
5 Hour Rental
$75 per bike
You could head to Pulteney Point Lighthouse for a walk along the beach and then stop at Bere Point for a picnic lunch while keeping an eye out for whales, birds and other marine mammals.
6 Hour Rental
$90 per bike
With a full day, you can cover almost everything you’d like to see and not feel rushed.
Overnight
$110 per bike
If you are spending the night without a car, you can rent a bike for a night and return it by 10 am.

Free Shared Bikes
No. The free shared bikes are first-come, first-serve.
No. As of May 2025, we are no longer requiring a security deposit to borrow a bike.
Absolutely! The bikes were purchased with funding from the Government of British Columbia but the ongoing maintenance and upkeep is paid for by donations and fundraisers. Your contributions are greatly appreciated.
No age restriction but you must be tall enough to reach the pedals and ride the bike safely.
The free bikes all have helmets, an integrated lock and a basket on the back.
The free shared bikes are named after humpback whales that are known to frequent the area. Marine Education and Research Society (MERS), a local non-profit organization put forth the names and provided a write up for each one. You can read more about them by scanning the QR code on your bike or visiting the Humpback Ambassadors page of this site.

Yes. Until we get our online booking system up and running, you can call us at 250-973-2001, send an email to ride@mibike.ca or fill out the form by clicking the rental request button above.
Yes. You must be at least 16 years old to ride our electric bikes. Minors under the age of 19 must have an adult in their party.
There is a refundable $250 security deposit per bike.
We accept cancellations up to 24 hours in advance of the rental. If it is raining the day of your rental, give us a call and we can reschedule or refund your rental.
The electric bike comes with a helmet, lock, rear rack, and a rear-view mirror.
The ebikes are named after Northern Resident orcas that are known to frequent the area. We reached out to Jared Towers of Bay Cetology and Troy Bright of Bere Point Research to assist with names. In addition to adding to your bike riding experience with fun names, we hope to also create an opportunity to help educate people about these whales.
